About PlateCrafters: Our History

cj_spering

Founded in 1971 by C.J. Spering, PlateCrafters began as a rubber platemaker for the newspaper imprint industry and is one of the few trade shops still producing rubber printing plates. As pre-press technology evolved, PlateCrafters incorporated the latest innovations to be able to serve our customers. In fact, PlateCrafters' very first customer is still a loyal and happy customer today.

The late 1970’s ushered in the photopolymer plate era, which gave printers the ability to produce multicolor work. The following decade was marked by advancements in typesetting, and the 1990’s integrated computer software into the flexoplate industry.

PlateCrafters became one of the first trade shops to provide digital photopolymer plates as an early adopter of the technology. Since then, every few years, new digital equipment and software advances have kept PlateCrafters at the cutting edge of flexo pre-press; now offering the most advanced screening and resolution technology available.

PlateCrafters has become the industry leader when it comes to innovation and quality in high end digital plates in addition to growing to be the largest magnesium die manufacturer on the East Coast. With locations in the Northeast, Southeast, and Midwest; PlateCrafters has adapted to changes throughout the printing industry. This has been possible by retaining a commitment to craftsmanship and pride in a job well done, while utilizing the most advanced software and equipment available.
